What the time duration calculator shows
The time duration calculator shows the difference between two moments as whole days, hours and minutes. Each moment includes a date and a time, so the calculator can handle intervals within one day or across several days.
How to use the calculator
Enter the start time and end time with both date and time of day. When you calculate the interval, the tool subtracts the start moment from the end moment and shows a readable summary.
How the duration is calculated
The calculator uses the local date and time values entered in the form and calculates the difference to the nearest whole minute. The result is split into complete days, hours and remaining minutes.
If the end time is before the start time, the current calculator shows the interval as zero and displays a notice. It does not calculate negative durations.
Example calculations
- 1 January 2026 08:00 to 1 January 2026 16:30 = 0 days, 8 hours and 30 minutes.
- 1 January 2026 09:15 to 1 January 2026 11:45 = 0 days, 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- 1 January 2026 08:00 to 2 January 2026 10:00 = 1 day, 2 hours and 0 minutes.
Hours, minutes and dates
Complete 24-hour periods are shown as days. The remaining time is shown as hours and minutes. The calculator does not show seconds.
Limitations
The calculator does not account for breaks, payroll rules, working-time law, employment agreements, public holidays, time zones or special daylight saving cases. It only compares the two local date and time values you enter.

Does it calculate between times or dates?
It uses date and time together. You can calculate an interval within the same day or an interval across multiple days.
What happens if the end time is before the start time?
The current calculator shows the interval as zero and does not calculate negative durations.
Does the calculator show seconds?
No. The result is shown in days, hours and minutes.
Can this be used for payroll or working-time compliance?
Use it only for a simple time difference. It does not interpret breaks, employment rules, payroll rules or legal working-time requirements.
