Formulas
- Rectangle area = width x height.
- Triangle area = base x height / 2.
- Circle area = pi x radius squared.

How to choose a shape
Use rectangle for rooms and flat surfaces with straight sides, triangle for half-rectangle shapes and circle when the measurement is based on radius or diameter. Choose the shape that matches the measurement you have.
Measurement accuracy
The area result is only as accurate as the entered dimensions. Round measurements can be helpful for quick planning, but ordering materials usually needs a margin for cuts, waste and measurement error.
