Fuel cost calculator – estimate trip cost and consumption

Estimate fuel needed, trip cost, cost per kilometer or average fuel consumption using metric units.

Calculate fuel cost or consumption

What the fuel cost calculator shows

The fuel calculator has two modes. You can estimate how much fuel a trip needs and what it costs, or calculate a vehicle's average consumption from driven kilometers and liters filled.

How to use the calculator

Choose the calculation mode. For trip fuel cost, enter distance in kilometers, consumption in liters per 100 km and fuel price per liter. For average consumption, enter driven kilometers and liters used.

Distance, consumption and fuel price

Trip cost is based on the distance, fuel consumption and per-liter price you enter. The consumption mode calculates an average in liters per 100 km from liters used and kilometers driven. The calculator is metric-only and does not calculate mpg or gallons.

Calculation logic

  • Fuel needed for a trip = distance x liters per 100 km / 100.
  • Trip cost = fuel needed x price per liter.
  • Cost per kilometer = trip cost / distance.
  • Average consumption = liters used / kilometers driven x 100.

Examples

If the distance is 250 km, consumption is 6.5 l/100 km and fuel costs 1.90 per liter, the trip needs 16.25 liters of fuel. The estimated fuel cost is 30.88 and the cost is about 0.12 per km.

If you drive 650 km and fill 42 liters, average consumption is about 6.46 l/100 km.

Cost and consumption assumptions

The calculator uses only the consumption, distance and per-liter price you enter. It can be used for gasoline, diesel and other fuels priced by the liter, but the result is always an estimate based on the input values.

Limitations and travel cost scope

The calculator estimates fuel cost from the distance, consumption and price you enter. It does not include every vehicle cost and does not fetch current fuel prices. Actual consumption can vary with driving style, speed, traffic, load, tires, weather, temperature, route and vehicle condition.

FAQ

How is trip fuel cost calculated?

Distance is multiplied by fuel consumption and divided by 100 to get liters needed. That amount is multiplied by the fuel price per liter.

How is average fuel consumption calculated?

Average consumption is liters used divided by kilometers driven, multiplied by 100.

What does l/100 km mean?

l/100 km means how many liters of fuel a vehicle uses over 100 kilometers.

Can I use this for diesel or gasoline?

Yes. Enter the appropriate price per liter and the vehicle's consumption in l/100 km.

Does the calculator support miles per gallon?

No. This calculator uses kilometers, liters and l/100 km. It does not convert mpg or gallons.
