What the basic calculator does

The basic calculator handles everyday arithmetic in the browser. Use it for quick addition, subtraction, multiplication and division when you need a clear numeric result without a more specialized calculator.

How to use the calculator

Type an expression in the field or build it with the on-screen buttons. Press Enter or the equals button to calculate the result, AC to clear the calculator and the backspace button to remove the last character. Escape clears the calculator from the keyboard.

Order of operations and decimals

The calculator follows the usual order of operations: parentheses first, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. You can use either a decimal point or a decimal comma in the input. The result is formatted for English.

Limitations

This is a basic arithmetic calculator, not a scientific calculator. It does not include trigonometric functions, powers, unit conversion, currency conversion or specialized tax, accounting or financial rules.
